Who are we?
We are girls (and boys) and we play roller derby; a contact sport played on roller skates, which already exists in Czech Republic for six years. In January 2018 we will go to the national World Cup in Manchester which takes place between 31st January and 5th February. where is going to be more than 40 nations from all over the world. Czech national team will participate for the very first time. We started practise as a new formed team in March 2017 and we are ready to represent our country with our best. The whole national team consists of 20 players, 2 coaches, keeper, photographer and two volunteers, all of these are dedicated to derby for years now and they're working hard every day to make roller derby grow and prosper.
How did it start...
We come from individual leagues in Czech Republic, Great Britain or Austria. At the beginning of 2017 we found out there is going to be a roller derby world cup in Manchester, which is for the first time outside the American continent. That's why we decided to create Czech Roller Derby Team. The tryouts for the team took place in March 2017 in Prague, where every player candidate had to prove her physical and roller derby skills. Since then we have regular practices every month and work on showing our best in Manchester.
Why are we doing this?
We've been playing roller derby for a while now, but it still remains an unknown sport. This way we want to show its beauty to a larger audience not only in Czechia. We also want to show the world that roller derby is alive and well in Central Europe, even though the rest of the planet is years ahead of us. We might not win at the World Cup, that doesn't mean we won't fight for every single point though. Don't let us fight alone and show us your support!
Why do we need your help?
To be a part of the Czech national roller derby team is prestigious, but unfortunately also expensive. From the very beginning all expenses are paid from our pockets. We buy all equipment, organize trainings, and rent a gym for practices and bouts. We are used to the fact that we have to work hard if we want to success in our goals. We know that nothing is for free. Your donation will help us pay for hotel for the whole team, buy jerseys, fly to Manchester and back, pay rent for gym and take care of transport and food in Manchester.
