Bicycle is an indispensable part of my life. Racing on a mountain bike in the Olympic Cross Country seems to be a drug you cannot get by. You can start racing if you have enough perseverance, endurance, patience and readiness to work hard. You need some skills, a bit of talent for sports, but primarily innumerable hours spent on training in any kind of weather and thousands of kilometeres spent on the bike seat. You have to spend time doing strength workouts, stretching, yoga, rehabilitation exercises. It also includes proper regeneration, sound sleep, and nutritional and well-composed diet. If you want to manage all these activities, you must be a well-organised person with a well-balanced daily regime. If you want to succeed and get into the community of the top riders, you need a high-quality material support (which namely includes a bicycle, its parts and clothing) and a financial means for training and races.
Olympic Cross Country is the competitive cycle sport discipline of mountain biking held on off-road terrain. In 1996, Cross Country events were added to the Olympic Games and became the only Olympic discipline within moutainbiking. Since their beginnings the XCO races have substantially changed, now being faster and shorter and more attractive for spectators. The events are held on a varied off-road terrain circuit, with considerable altitude and with high requirements for riders´ skills. The whole race normally lasts about 90 minutes, the circuit being 3-5 km long, one lap lasting about 12-18 minutes. The number of laps depends on the length of a particular circuit. It is always a massed-start race, so the World Cup race can witness up to 150 riders starting at a time. The World Cup races are usually followed by thousands of spectators and millions of TV viewers.
It is my opinion that the best way how to succeed is a permanent competition with the best riders. That is the reason why I compete in the MTB XCO World Cup races. I belong to 3-5 riders from the Czech Republic who take part in the World Cup races in Elite Men Category regularly.
· be among the best 5 riders in the Czech Republic in Elite Men Category
· be among the best 5 riders in C1 races (1st category home and international races)
· be among the best 10 riders in HC races (Hors Class category international races)
· be among the best 30 riders in the World Cup races
· be nominated in the Czech Republic National Team for the World and European Championships
Cycling (not only road cycling, but also mountainbiking) is funded primarily through the professional teams. However, in the Czech Republic the financial support of this Olympic discipline on the international level is considerably low. Most of the existing professional teams in this country support and pay their riders for their participation in massed-based races for hobby riders. It is not the path I want to follow and therefore I am looking for financial means in a different way. That is the reason why I have decided to launch the project based on crowdfunding. I have prepared numerous rewards for those who are willing to be my backers and support me with small amounts of money. My rewards include photos, posters, start numbers, feed zone passes, World Cup journals in e-form (in English), and, namely, joint activities on the bike comprising bike maintenance, off-road terrain lectures, complete workouts, etc., because I think there are many people who love mountainbiking as their hobby, and it will be my pleasure to share my experience with them. The rewards are drawn up so that they can be used as a gift or token in various occasions for friends, employees, colleagues and namely family members including children.
The budget for 2018 season is 230,000 czk (ca 9,000 euros, 10,400 USD). It does not include material costs (bicycle and its parts) which will be covered by my material supporters. The funds I might obtain from you through crowdfunding will be used for
· race registration fees
· travel expenditures for the races
· accommodation at race venues
· coach´s salary
· training camps in „warm“ destinations in case of adverse weather conditions in my home country
Also, I am ready to partially bear the costs using the money I am earning doing the part-time regular job.
