All or nothing. Project finished on Jun 2, 2019 at 11:55.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to complete an interactive and immersive light show for
future Bohemian Cristal Instrument concerts and to prepare a unique
sound and visual concert experience for you. At the same time, you
will help us to create an original sound medium made of glass, for our
debut UNICODE EP, which so far has only been released digitally.
Bohemian Cristal Instrument is an independent music project, entirely financed by the author.
Without your help, we would not be able to bring the immersive light show to life neither
produce more pieces of the unique glass format of UNICODE EP.
In detail
Bohemian Cristal Instrument is the first sound sculpture of Cristal
Baschet in the Czech Republic, and the only one of its design in the
world.
During her stay in Barcelona, Lenka met Martí Ruiz of Metaludic
Baschet Studio, who are the direct descendants of the Baschet
brothers, the original Baschet instrument makers. For the
International Glass Symposium IGS 2012 in Nový Bor, Lenka designed the
first Czech Cristal Baschet instrument. It was also built here, and
thus was given the name Bohemian Cristal Instrument.
On their adventurous journey together, Lenka and BCI have already
appeared at the prestigious American TEDx Talk, performed at Colors of
Ostrava in collaboration with William Close and his Earth Harp,
represented the Czech Republic at the Eurosonic Festival (Europe's
largest showcase festival), and their acoustic video from the
Californian desert went viral, reaching 2 million people worldwide.
Nowadays, while Lenka resides partly in Los Angeles and partly in Prague,
the project has grown to incorporate a whole band, in which BCI is complemented by live drums and synthesizers.
At the same time, Lenka is working on a light show with her team of collaborators.
It will combine interactive laser mapping and the light properties of
glass to create a mesmerizing, hypnotic concert experience.
Artist's quote
"The Bohemian Cristal Instrument is not just a musical instrument for
me. It is a headstrong, living entity. In our cooperation, I consider
myself a kind of medium interpreting between the instrument and the
audience. I try to stay out of the way as much as possible to give the instrument the space to get fully expressed while building new universe around it," says Lenka Morávková.
Who are we?
The Bohemian Cristal Instrument project is closely connected to the
glassmaking region of Jablonec in the Czech Republic, where Lenka hails from. A few years
ago, she produced several striking new media installations based on
the sound of local factories in the time of their deepest decline
('Glass leaked from a cracked tub', 'It is not a very pleasant sound',
the album 'GLASS IS NOT THAT'). The glass sound of BCI is a
continuation of her work with the local tradition of Czech glass,
which in this project offers a unique sonic form and combines
tradition and futurism in one.
