How it all began
A letter came. In Chinese and with many red stamps and signatures from important men. Google Translator told us we were invited to perform at a large choir festival in the Chinese city of Jinan. Not to compete but to perform as honorary guests. Well, hooray, and let’s go through Beijing and make it a tour! And off we are – flight tickets for 26 people, visas, get in contact with our Embassy in Beijing, find childcare for our kids when we are away, hopefully we won’t mess up the complicated instructions for photo on the visa, etc. In short, we are really looking forward to it and we need a bit of your help.
What is our goal?
In order to throw a concert in Beijing and Jinan, we need a bit of push with our budget. It is a bit far for us, you know. However, we are not begging for money: we are offering you good music in return from good musicians. See for yourself – have you, for example, ever ordered a Mozart performance live with just one click?
How can you fly with us? Either really or kinda. More in the awards!
Details
We are offering you awards which should please you the same way they will please us. We can perform a full concert in your living room, sing under your windows or perform with a large ensemble at a prestigious event or just for the fun of it. Our awards are good value for your money. Mozart`s Requiem with a full orchestra and professional soloists? Here we come. Do you want to play to your “significant other” under your windows? We will be there.
There is quite a lot of Chines culture coming to the Czech Republic but there is less Czech classical music in China. We want to change that.
Our budget is far over half a million Czech crowns so we are putting a lot of our own money into this. Any contribution from your side will thus be a commitment for us to show the beauty of Czech classical music to the Chinese audience. You can listen to some of our music here.
... and there is more
Prefer adrenalin to classic? Have a look among the awards, there is something for you as well.
Who are we?
Piccolo coro & Piccola orchestra are a combination of a mixed chamber choir and a chamber string orchestra, who rehearse/perform under the baton of Marek Valášek. The ensemble is based in Prague and has 40 stable members. Since its establishment in 1996, it has given hundreds of concerts both home and abroad.
The ensemble interprets compositions regardless of time period or genre. The line-up can be greater, according to the needs of individual music projects – be it chamber works or spectacular oratorios from the romantic period. Both the choir and the string orchestra also perform their own separate programs on a regular basis. Works of sacred music prevail; many of them date to the 20th century. The ensemble often premieres contemporary Czech compositions or records them for the Czech Radio.
At the Young Stage Festival 2004, the ensemble was given the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Prize; at the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music 2007 it won a prize in the golden range and received the Petr Eben Award. Piccolo coro was the absolute winner of the International Choral Art Festival Jihlava 2011; at the prestigious choral competition in Spittal, Austria, the choir won the 1st prize in the main category, the 3rd prize in the folklore category and the Special Jury Award for their interpretation of a contemporary composition. At the international competition Praga cantat 2016, the choir was awarded the winner’s cup in the category of mixed chamber choirs, a Special Jury Award for the interpretation of Jan Novák’s composition, and the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Prize.
The ensemble recorded four CDs of sacred music – Marian music in Loreto (1998), Hear My Prayer (2000), Cantico delle Creature (2004), Gaudete in Domino (2013) - and one with choral arrangements of folk songs Hore Dolinami (2009). You can find more about us here.

MoreDear friends from Prague, here we come also in English. We are so sorry you are not getting the video in English too, maybe in our next life. We hope you will enjoy our rewards. Yours, Piccolo coro & Piccola orchestra
