All or nothing. Project finished on Jun 13, 2019 at 18:28.
We have been playing together for a long, long time... 13 women – lawyers, hairdressers, economists and physiotherapists, mothers of 30 children, connected by more than 25 years of shared experiences and love for water polo. We are playing the Czech women's major league and our line-up remains practically unchanged. In the water, we are regularly fighting 18-year-olds and once a year we sign up for an international championship tournament to find out how we can compete on the European and world class level. And we are doing great so far!
This year's World Masters Championships tournament takes place in Gwangju, South Korea, and we would like to have a chance to defend our title and try to win the gold medals once again. However, our travel costs this year are significantly higher than previously, so not all of us can afford to pay their share. The total cost including transport, accommodation, registration fees etc. will be around 21,100 EUR. We have already secured sponsorship agreements for 3,800 EUR and we can raise another 5,800 EUR from our own means. But if we are to defend our title, we cannot do that without your help and support.
We plan to use the money raised to cover the travel costs for all the team players, i.e. the flights to Seoul and the subsequent train connection to Gwangju. Please do help us represent our country in Korea. We will be forever grateful to you (and name you as our contributors and supporters wherever we can).
In 2016 we played in our first European Masters Championships in Rijeka, Croatia. Unfortunately, the bronze medal slipped through our fingers. We were really disappointed at first. But then, instead of giving up, we started to work harder and decided that it wouldn't stop us! Since then, our training commitment has significantly improved. We swim, we exercise and we are all involved in additional individual workouts on top of our regular team trainings. Thanks to all the hard work, as well as our experience in lifelong learning, we finally achieved our first wins. And we want to keep on winning!
Our motto is: "The Team is Sacred."
And that’s the main reason we now need to come together to help the whole team to make it to Gwangju.
Water polo is the oldest Olympic team sport. If unsure about what it actually is, imagine a mix of handball and Greek wrestling in water. Water polo is an extremely smart and tactical sport, and once you try it, you don´t want to stop.
We are a bunch of women who live (relatively) normal lives. We just regularly put on funny caps and fight in the water with women wearing funny caps of a different colour.
We would love to experience the atmosphere of a major World Championship once again. We feel more ourselves when in the pool. No kids’ homework to deal with, no disgruntled bosses, no mortgage worries. Just us, the ball and the opponents.
We want to play and do our best to win.
