How it began?

It’s been quite a while since Maki told me about cool event where she been. It was directly in the Otava river! Nice afternoon with a drink and fire in the middle of the reiver. Part of this funny afternoon in the river was little piece of „art“ – how to describe it…guys found some indecent magazines and picture from it decorated on the piece of board – it makes fun for boating people far away.

Year latter we start talking about an IDEA. Let’s make exhibition along all part of the river which flowing acros town. Maki is close to the art, both of us love nature. Let’s create water Land Art gallery on the Otava river. For make this happen we need help from a lot of people, mainly from the people whos living in our town. It’s important to create our place together. It’s important to create our PLACE.

About project

Create the first water gallery in the Czech republic with community engagement that emphasizes the countryside in our town. The project will use unutilized public space; creating the possibility for leisure time activities with the local environment. We want to build the community up in a creative way; interacting with those who live in Horažďovice, Czech Republic. We can expect Land Art object, Stone building, Moss Art, scoulpture and mooooore.

Details

We would like to create both a short and long-term installation (20-30 pieces) along areas of the Otava river, which flows across the town. We will use the Land Art movement as inspiration for this project. It will be visible from both the walking and biking trails as well as from the boating side.

The Otava river is a significant aspects of this place. The specific town atmosphere is formed by the river that flows through it. It’s famous for boating activities, but also in the past had historical importance - auriferous river as well as breeding pearl river. This is the place where the first water gallery should be!

Project connecting general public with professionals. With this method, we are connecting two different perspectives on the space.

Each month, from January 2016, there will be thematically oriented workshops, lectures, discussion, exhibiton, movie projection and music performance. All will be prior to the creation of the art. It will help the general public to better understand the concept of our project.

Final workshop for the project will be to create and install the art along the river banks. The opening show will bring together boating along the water gallery along. At the end of the gallery wil be our special water bar where the celebration and after-party will take place.

Hello, I’m Mirka. Hi, I’m Markéta.

Greetings from Horažďovice. Both of us are from Horažďovice, so we can talk about this small town in the Czech republic for quite awhile. But we won’t! What is really important is the river Otava. Otava flows throughout all of the city. Our project is about Land Art on the Otava River. WAIT. What is Land art?

It’s artistic movement that emerged in the US during the late 1960’s

It’s created in nature, using natural materials

Objects are in harmony with the landscape

We are living in this community together, so let’s create together! Each of us decides how our public space will look like. We can passively accept the current form or we can create a new, more attractive and enjoyable form. Let’s spend our free time in an active way; meeting new people along with seeing nature in different way. We can educate ourselves and increase ours creativity. LET’S CREATE THE FIRST WATER GALLERY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC! Lets inspire yourself or come inspiring us! ????
